Terrance and Joyce Moyer

 Terrance L. & Joyce M. Moyer

Joyce and Terry collectively have approximately 90 years of life experiences in the world of equines. We both started our riding skills on ponies, bareback with halters using bailing twine for reins. Finally we progressed to real size horses with actual tack. Our love is still horses, our concern is for their care and comfort.

Our instruction is based upon experience, common sense, natural horsemanship methods, safety foremost, and correct equitation for the performance level of the rider, horse, and choice of discipline.

We both are accredited instructors by and with TWHBEA.

I’ve always loved horses. I grew up on a farm, but my dad hated horses—he had to take care of and ride draft horses as a boy—so I was never allowed to even think about owning a horse while I lived at home. I read all the horses stories I could find at the local public library growing up—the same book two and three times when I ran out of new books—and vowed that one day I would own a horse.

I’ve been a full-time employee at Firelands College Library for over 36 years. Being a full-time employee does have its perks. I found this out in 1999 when a 1 hr. credit PE course was offered—Beginning Horseback riding—taught by Joyce M. Morris (now Joyce M. Moyer).  I was in heaven! It was great. A free course on the subject that I loved!! Naturally, when the Trail Riding course was offered in the summer, I signed up again (since it was free). I’ve been hooked ever since, and met Sugarfoot, my first horse, in the fall of 1999.

I became active teaching riding lessons about 6 years ago to supplement my income and help pay for board for the 5 horses that I now own—of course, all Tennessee Walkers.  I love giving barn tours, doing birthday parties (or any other kind of party—what do you have in mind?), working with church groups, girl scouts, brownie troops, private, group lessons, and family rides for visitors from out of state (vacationing at Kalahari or Great Wolf Lodge).

Since I work full-time during the day at Firelands College Library in Huron, OH, my availability is limited to nights and weekends, and some Friday afternoons. I can be reached on my cell phone. If I don’t answer, just leave a message and I’ll get to you as soon as possible.

I first rode when I was 10, but I'm not sure that counts because I snuck over to the neighbor's farm and got on their horses without permission. It's probably a good thing that we moved from that area when I was 12 because I couldn't think of any more excuses to tell my parents about the bruises I always had! Then about 15 years ago I took lessons at Maple Crest Farms(this time with the farmowner's permission) and found it so fun and interesting, that soon after I found I was helping out with lessons and eventually took on my own students.

I've shown my horse and ridden in parades but I really enjoy trail riding with friends. I feel fortunate to have a wonderful Tennessee Walking Horse and feel blessed to have my “barn family”.

If you would like to try a riding experience or arrange a party at the barn with the horses for any type of gathering, please call me at 419-541-7578.

Welcome to Maple Crest Farms! My name is Maria Berger and I’ve been involved with horses for most of my life. I was fortunate as a child to get my first quarter pony when I was 10. As a youth, I was involved with 4-H, showing and trail riding. So, here I am, many years later and I am still involved in 4-H (as an advisor and with my daughter Hali), showing (I’m now the “show mom/groom”) and trail riding! I can’t think of anything more fun than spending time with my family, friends and our awesome Tennessee Walking Horses at the shows, on the trails or just hanging out at the barn. I get great pleasure from introducing others to the wonderful world of horses. I am available for beginner lessons, trail riding, girl scout or boy scout clinics, birthday parties and “Kids Cowboy Camp” held in the summer. We hope you can join us for some fun on the farm and remember…    "The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a human."

I’ve always loved animals. I’ve been riding horses for ten years and have taught beginning riding and “Gentle Touch Grooming” (for non-riders) for the past 4 years. I am a 20-year high school/college French teacher, as well as the advisor for the Edison High School Equestrian Club.
I feel very lucky to have only ever ridden Tennessee Walking Horses, with their calm, docile temperament, combined with naturally smooth and easy gaits, immense versatility and ground-covering abilities. I purchased my first Walker five years ago. Goldie is a tall, beautiful 18-year old mare who is the love of my life. She has the stamina of a 3 year-old but the sensibility of a seasoned horse. We LOVE trail riding! During the summer, we clock around 50-55 hours of trail riding throughout the state of Ohio and Indiana.

Although I work full time, I’m available to teach beginning riding and “Gentle Touch Grooming” preferably evenings, weekends and any time during the summer (when I’m not trail riding!) I will also assist with group rides, and will accommodate high school clubs as well as students who are looking for National Honor Society points.

I can be reached on my cell phone (440-522-1743) or by e-mail (abinder@adelphia.net).
